Phlebotomy Clinical Practicum

This course equip participants with the practical skills required for the collection of blood and other bodily fluids in a clinical setting. Participants will be introduced to the basic physiology and anatomy of the circulatory system and the proficiency required to perform successful venepuncture. 

The practicum will be conducted at one of Raffles Medical’s island-wide clinics. Participants must acquire theoretical knowledge of Phlebotomy from an accredited institution prior to the practicum.

This course is conducted by Raffles Medical Group in collaboration with Republic Polytechnic.

Description

The course is suitable for medical technologists, nurses and phlebotomists who are required to take blood and other bodily fluid specimens for laboratory testing. Enrolled nurses, patient service officers and other healthcare workers with prior training and experience are also suitable candidates.

Course Outcome

At the end of the programme, participants will be able to perform successful venepuncture procedures for different types of patient by:

  1. Applying knowledge of Medical Terminology during venepuncture.
  2. Understanding key elements of the Cardiovascular and Nervous Systems.
  3. Identifying pathological conditions in relation to Phlebotomy.
  4. Collecting and handling blood specimens securely and according to organisational protocols.
  5. Performing successful venepunctures safely and efficiently whilst managing potential complications.
  6. Adopting biosafety, infection control and quality assurance measures as a Phlebotomist.

Upon successful completion of the course (with 80% minimum attendance) and assessment, graduates will be awarded a Certificate of Completion in Phlebotomy by Republic Polytechnic.

Course Duration:

Clinical Practicum: 40 hours

Practical Assessment: 0.5hours

    • Upon purchase, we will send to your email a redemption letter, that you can use to redeem your course. This letter can only be used for the course indicated.

    • The redemption letter must be presented on the day of the course, together with your NRIC / identification documents.

    • A minimum of 80% attendance record is required for learners to sit for the assessment. Absentees may request make-up lessons only upon producing a medical certificate. Participants who did not complete their assessment successfully will have to re-take the assessment (MCQ / Practical) on another day within one month. Additional assessment attempts will be subjected to an administrative fee of $10.

    • Participants who did not complete their assessment successfully will have to re-take the assessment (MCQ / Practical) on another day within one month. Additional assessment attempts will be subjected to an administrative fee of $10.
