Description

What is Human Papilloma Virus (HPV)?
HPV is a group of more than 150 related viruses, with each virus given a number (HPV type). HPV is transmitted through intimate skin-to-skin contact, and an infected person can show no signs or symptoms.

HPV infection can cause cervical, vulva, and vagina cancers in females. For men, HPV infection can cause genital warts and anal cancer.

Cervical cancer occurs when there is abnormal cell growth in the cervix (neck of the womb). Infection of the cervix with the human papilloma virus (HPV) is the most common cause of cervical cancer. Infection from HPV serotypes 16, 18, 31, 33, 45, 52 and 58 which account for 95% of cervical cancer cases 1, can be prevented through vaccination.
